His Eyes

I could see right through him.
Perhaps it was his eyes. Unlike mine they weren't cold or calculating. His were welcoming, though I could tell that he wanted--needed--to win. So I was going to crush that need; he would have to fail.
It was a given that I couldn't bring myself to blink. What murdered me, however, was that he could not either. The poor, poor boy.
Minutes passed. Neither of us had fallen.
A record was broken. I suffered from dryness, from the lack of life. Yet still we continued.

Sci-Fi =O

I want to write a sci-fi short story.

Now, before I say anything else, I'm going to be honest. I've seen star wars and the latest star trek. That is the extent of my sci-fi experience.

My goal is to go classic and cliche. I'm not trying to be original here, I just want to try a futuristic Earth. I don't have any plans, just that it will be set in a futuristic city that looks awesome. So...yeah. Basically, I need tips, ideas, anything that will help. If you know something, I probably don't.

On a slightly unrelated and totally pwnsome note, anyone have any other ideas for any genre for a short story? I'm in a writing mood lately, and I should be able to do these easier than emoticons (sorry about that, if I said I was gonna do an emoticon and didn't. o.O). So I'm not promising anything, and if I do say I'll do something I'll only do one at a time, just to be safe.
